About The Project
In the coming months, additional construction and operation permits will be submitted as the project progresses. The project team is accepting inquiries from entities interested in a new source of clean water.
This project is in line with the desalination plans outlined in the 2022 State Water Plan.
Aquifer and reservoir levels are falling and fast-growing regions such as the Gulf Coast need to rely less on groundwater because it is causing the ground to sink (subsidence), further increasing dependence on surface water. Brazoria and Fort Bend Counties are an ideal location on the Gulf Coast and within a region experiencing both growth and subsidence due to excessive groundwater withdrawals.
We value our commitment to our local communities and look forward to contributing to the county’s development by providing an additional supply of clean water and capital investment in Texas.
A 25-million-gallon-per-day desalination facility supplies enough clean water to be the equivalent of the daily water use of 110,000 households. Notably, utilizing water desalination facilities reduces demand on existing freshwater resources, like rivers, reservoirs, and wetland habitats. For example, in Israel increased water desalination capacity helped reduce the shrinking of the Jordan River and Sea of Galilee.
Texas’ growing economy and population will require increased clean water resources. Brazosport Clean Water offers a consistent, drought-proof water supply to support Texas’ growth.
Invenergy has developed 16 clean energy projects in the state and invested more than $30 million in Texas communities. Brazosport Clean Water builds on Invenergy’s track record in the state to deliver an innovative solution to Texas’ need for clean water.
